Step Out from Your Comfort Zone

1:45 PM

To live God's designed life, sometimes we have a condition where we have to do something that leave our comfort zone. It can be that God uses some opportunities to bring us to the new place, or He opens the door that we never expect before. I want you know that not only you who experience that. Everyone experiences it and it is possible to be afraid and worry. I remembered Abraham if I think about this.

“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you." (Genesis 12:1 ESV)

God called Abraham to leave his home country and go to a new place he had no idea where it was. No specific place was given. I wonder what he thought and what he felt. If I were Abraham, I certainly would be afraid and worry. In Genesis 15:1, We can conclude that Abraham was fear at that time.

“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.””

(Genesis 15:1 ESV)

God said 'fear not' to Abram (Abraham) , it meant that God knew there was a fear in Abram's heart, God knew the worry he felt inside. It is natural that we have that fear in our heart and worry creeps in to our mind. But it is not okay that we are trapped in that fear then we don't obey God's command. Look how God responded Abram when He noticed that there was fear in him. The Lord said he would be the shield for Abram, in other word He would protect him. If God was for him, what should he be afraid of? If we have to go somewhere new, what we have to be afraid? If we are given some tasks that require us leave our comfort zone, why we should be afraid?

I know the fear come because we don't know anything about our future. We are not sure about how our life will be whenever we step out from our comfort zone. But let's see how God worked in Abram's life. It was stated that The Lord himself would show Abram the place he ought to go. The same case goes in us.God works step by step and He doesn't let us know what is the whole plan of our life. It's like a nature that we human want to know everything so that we feel confidence to step out. But God's thought is totally different from ours. He sets a condition where we have no idea about His whole plan so that we have a daily communication with Him, we consult with Him in every steps we are going to take and we ask Him for His guidance. Because if it is not, we tend to do everything by our own (proverb 3:5).

One more thing I learn from Abram's story. He gave him the order and He accompanied him with His promises.

"And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:4 ESV)

The promises are His guidance, the strength which come from Him to go through everything and the rewards. What is the rewards? Just believe that He is faithful and just, He will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil (Ecclesiastes 12:4), including our obedience (emphasis added by writer). What God ask you to do? Where He's appointed you to go? Whatever it is, He always be with you. :)
