When we have another god...

One morning one idea came in to my mind. How about I put one lucky cat in to my store. For it is told and believed to bring luck. I did not do anything to realize that idea. I just simply thought about it.  Just a glimpse of thought, but suddenly I felt guilty. The verse of Exodus which stated about there shall not be other god before Him in Ten Commandments condemned me. For the consecutive days, whenever I read the scripture, it pointed to the sin of people of Israel who corrupted to God by having another god before him and worship it as an idol.

When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ‘ up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’” (Exodus 32:1 NIV)

It was not written how long Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, but I am sure that people at that time frustrated with the time set by God.  Mostly, in our life, we are frustrated by the timing of God’s work in our life and we consider God is late and we try to solve it by our own strength and we seek help from another source. We think God is late providing spouse for us, then we clumsily pick a man or woman who is actually not for us. We think God is not going to heal our sickness, then we go to sensei or diviners for alternative way to heal us. Or we simply put our hope to in to the amulets which are told will dismiss any bad luck from our life. We might consider it as a small thing and it doesn’t matter, but God sees it as a sin.

“Go down, for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves. They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them. They have made for themselves a golden calf and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it ....” (Exodus 32:7-8)

I think there are tendencies for men to see something which can be seen by eyes and make it as our idol. A.R Bernard ever said that IDOLATRY is seeking security and meaning in someone or something other than God. The LORD commanded us to trust Him and  remove any idol before Him.  To trust god with our heart means having faith in His timing and in the way He works. Where there may not be any sign, we still be faithfully put our hope in Him only. Trusting him means not rejecting him as the King of our life, who will fight for us, provides for us and watch over us.

May it become a blessing. Thank you for reading and sharing
